The CrossFit Level 2
This past weekend, CrossFit Indestri had the privilege of hosting a CrossFit Level 2 Hybrid Certificate Course.
It's something we'd been working toward for a long time. After applying year after year for 11 years, we were finally selected to host a course. To have that opportunity fall on our affiliate's 16th anniversary made it even more meaningful.
For many people, a CrossFit credential is just that, a credential. But the Level 2 is much more than another certificate on the wall.
It's an opportunity to be coached while coaching.
Throughout the weekend, coaches stand in front of fellow affiliate owners, experienced coaches, longtime CrossFit athletes, and the seminar staff to coach movements and receive immediate feedback. It can be a humbling experience. Not because anyone is trying to point out what you do wrong, but because you're surrounded by people who care deeply about coaching and are all working toward the same goal: becoming better.
No matter how many years you've coached or how many classes you've led, there's always another cue to learn, another perspective to consider, another way to connect with an athlete, and another opportunity to improve.
In many ways, it's no different than what we ask our athletes to do every day.
We ask you to do hard things. To attempt the lift that scares you. To jump up to the pull up bar. To work through the discomfort of a workout. To embrace being uncomfortable, because that's where growth happens.
The Level 2 asks coaches to do the same.
Standing up to coach your peers can feel uncomfortable. Receiving feedback from experienced seminar staff, fellow affiliate owners, and coaches can be challenging. Having your strengths recognized while also identifying areas where you can improve requires vulnerability. But that's exactly where growth happens.
The best coaches aren't the ones who think they've mastered coaching. They're the ones willing to put themselves in situations where they're challenged, where they receive feedback, and where they continue learning.
That mindset extends far beyond coaching.
You don't become stronger because of one workout. You become stronger because you consistently show up. You don't master a movement because you practiced it once. You improve because you're willing to keep working on it, even when progress feels slow.
The same is true of building an affiliate.
For 11 years I continued to apply to host a Level 1 or Level 2 seminar. Every time, I didn’t hear back. But every year I applied again, and eventually, this past March, the opportunity came. Consistency and persistence matter, whether you're chasing your first pull up, building a business, or working to become a better coach.
We had a phenomenal team of CrossFit (red shirts) seminar staff, Jocelyn, Valerie, and Matthieu. Their knowledge, professionalism, passion, and ability to develop coaches to be better was second to none.
It was great to get to spend time with longtime affiliate owners and coaches, reconnecting with some familiar faces, meeting new faces, and sharing ideas with people who all believe in the same methodology.
Weekends like this remind us why we've been proud to call ourselves a CrossFit affiliate for 16 years.
We never want to be the coaches who think we've learned enough.
We want to keep raising our standard.
Because our athletes deserve coaches who are committed to learning just as much as they are committed to teaching.
