Celebrating Nancy’s 90th
We don't typically create special birthday workouts for our athletes. If we did, our programming would basically be consisting of a birthday WOD’s. Or we'd inevitably miss someone's birthday, and that's something we'd never want to do.
But every once in a while, a milestone comes along that simply can't pass without being celebrated.
This Monday is one of those days.
Nancy is turning 90 years old.
Ninety years is an incredible milestone in itself, but what makes it even more remarkable is how she's chosen to spend so many of those years. Nancy has been doing CrossFit for more than 14 years, proving every single day that fitness has no expiration date.
Over the past three years, she's even stood on the competition floor and competed in the CrossFit Open, representing not only herself, but showing the entire CrossFit community what's possible when you continue to move, challenge yourself, and refuse to let age define you.
When I mentioned to Nancy that we were programming a workout in her honour for her 90th Birthday, she was, unsurprisingly, a little reluctant to be in the spotlight.
That's Nancy.
She has never been someone looking for attention. She simply shows up, works hard, and quietly inspires everyone around her. But we’re not letting this milestone Birthday pass without a celebration.
Nancy is class, intelligence, beauty, grace, grit, and strength all wrapped up in one extraordinary woman. After a successful career as a hospital CEO, most people would have been content to slow down. Nancy decided to go to law school in her 70s instead. She has spent her entire life continuing to learn, grow, and challenge herself. Most recently, she's taken up learning French.
That's who Nancy is. She reminds us that growth doesn't stop at a certain age. Neither does learning. Neither does strength.
You might also be interested to learn that prior to starting CrossFit 14+ years ago, going to the gym had never been part of Nancy’s life. CrossFit was the start of her journey with fitness.
On Monday, every class will complete a special birthday workout in Nancy's honour.
Nancy herself will be attending the 9:30am class, and we've increased the class cap slightly to allow a few more athletes to join her if you'd like to celebrate this incredible milestone alongside her.
We hope you'll come help us honour a woman who has inspired so many of us over the years.
And join us in wishing a very Happy 90th Birthday, to Nancy.
What an incredible privilege it is to celebrate not only the years you've lived, but the example you continue to set for all of us. Here's to continuing to move the needle toward fitness, curiosity, and adventure for many years to come.
