CrossFit should make your world bigger

We spend a lot of time talking about and tracking what happens inside the gym.

How much weight is on the bar.
How fast you finished the workout.
Whether you got your first pull up.
How many rounds you completed.
Whether you hit that PR you’ve been chasing.

And all those things matter. They give us goals to work toward and ways to measure progress. But they aren’t really the point of CrossFit.

CrossFit should make your world bigger.

It should give you the confidence to say yes when someone asks you to go for a hike, instead of wondering if you’ll be able to keep up. It should let you carry your own luggage, move furniture, shovel the driveway, spend the day skiing, get out on the water, play a sport, chase your kids or grandkids around, or try something you’ve never done before.

It should create more possibilities, not just better numbers in the gym.

That’s one of the things we love most about CrossFit. We squat, pull, push, carry, run, jump, climb and move in countless different ways, but none of those skills are meant to exist only within the four walls of the gym.

We’re building capacity that follow us when we walk outside the walls of the gym.

And sometimes you don’t realize how much capacity you’ve built until life asks for it.

You go on a hike that once would have intimidated you. You pick something heavy up without thinking twice. You spend an entire day being active and realize you still have energy left. You try something new because instead of wondering, can my body handle this? You trust that it probably can.

That might be one of the best measures of CrossFit there is.

Not just what can you lift?
Not just how fast can you go?
But what does your CrossFit allow you to do outside the gym?

Because the goal was never to become really good at exercising. The goal is to build a body capable of participating fully in your life, for as long as possible.

Train inside the gym. So that you can go use it everywhere else.

Train so that you let CrossFit make your world bigger.
