The base is nutrition

We know all of you train hard. You show up, put in the work, and continue to get fitter, faster, and stronger. But one of the things we don’t talk about nearly as often as we should, and something we plan on changing, is nutrition.

It’s the base of the CrossFit pyramid. Nutrition is the foundation of everything we do. To be honest, we used to be much better at emphasizing it, and it’s time we get back to it.

In CrossFit’s “100 Words of Fitness,” you’ll find the prescription for nutrition:

Eat meat and vegetables, nuts and seeds, some fruit, little starch, and no sugar.

We’re not going to get fancy with this. We’re going to keep it simple: eat real, whole foods.

At the Affiliate Summit last weekend, Jocelyn, who leads the CrossFit Nutrition Course, said, blunt but true: “Everyone trains their bodies really hard. They shouldn’t be treating their bodies like a dumpster.”

That resonated. Because training is only part of the picture. Nutrition is what supports your recovery, your health, and your long term performance.

Steph and I have talked about this a lot, and moving forward, we’re going to start weaving more nutrition education into what we do here, through blogs, through conversations, through small changes. Nothing complicated. Just reminders of the simple truths that have always been at the heart of CrossFit.

So let’s start here:
Eat meat and vegetables, nuts and seeds, some fruit, little starch, and no sugar.

Simple.
Effective.
Life changing.
