Grace for Grace

What started back in 2014 has become a tradition at CrossFit Indestri. mWhen Monika approached us about doing something for World Purple Day to raise awareness and support for epilepsy, it was an easy yes. Monika, Grace and their family were part of this community back in the early days, and this workout quickly became something close to many of our hearts.

12 years later, it’s something we continue to show up for, and something we intend to carry on for many more years to come.

At its core, Grace is a benchmark workout:

30 Clean and Jerks for time
Rx: 135/95

It’s a workout you’ll see again and again.
One you’ll track.
One you’ll measure progress against.
Your time matters.
The weight you use matters.
How it feels matters.

But on this day, it’s more than just a benchmark.
It’s Grace for Grace.

Choose a weight that is safe, but also one that pushes you. Not your go to weight. Not the comfortable option. Something that makes you think twice before you pick it up. Because this workout is meant to challenge today of all days.

When you step up to the bar, whether you know Grace Howe, her mom Monika, her dad Gavin, her sister Emma, or not, take a moment to think about what this day represents. Think about the reality of living with epilepsy, or someone in your life who may face it. Or who may face their own challenge.

And when it starts to get hard, because it will, that’s the point. Much like a Hero WOD, we treat Grace for Grace the same way.
We dig in.
We stay in it.
We fight through the discomfort.

Because we can do hard things. And a hard workout is nothing compared to what someone living with epilepsy faces.

So wear your purple.
Show your support.
Be a Purple Hero.

Track your workout.
Remember it.
You’ll see it again.

And when you do, you’ll know exactly what it meant the first time.

*As mentioned yesterday, if you’re doing Quarterfinals, please take this as a rest day, you’re doing 30 Clean and Jerks in the middle of Quarterfinals workout 4. As much as you might want to show up to be a purple hero and honour Grace for Grace, it’s not a good idea, when you have it coming up on Saturday.
