Training with an injury, or knowing when to rest
We’re always happy to scale or modify movements when needed. Whether it’s a nagging shoulder, a cranky knee, or something else that’s holding you back, we’ve got options, and we’ll work with you to keep you moving in a way that’s smart, safe, and effective.
But there’s always a little confusion when it comes to injuries and training.
Which is totally understandable, we get it, because we do scale and modify workouts all the time.
So to try to clear up a little confusion, if you’re dealing with something that just needs a couple of days off to feel better, you need to take the rest.
You’re not going to lose your fitness by taking two or three days to let something settle down. In fact often times, you will risk prolonging it (or making it worse) if you keep pushing when your body is asking for a break.
There’s a big difference between training around an injury , and training through something that simply needs rest.
If it’s something more long term or an issue that requires weeks or months to heal, we’re 100% here to support you with appropriate scaling and modification. We've helped athletes train through everything from post surgery rehab to chronic injuries, and we’ll continue to do that. That’s where scaling becomes a tool to keep you active without compromising your recovery.
But if what’s going on is something that would likely improve with a couple days of doing nothing, let it. Rest is not quitting. In some cases it’s smart training.
The key is communication.
Let your coach know what’s going on, before class, not in the middle of warm up.
Tell us how you're feeling, and we’ll help you navigate the next steps.
Hopefully this was a little helpful and clears up some of the confusion.
