Nutrition

This past Saturday at CFI we spent the day digging into the piece that everything else is built on. Ten of us took part in the CrossFit Nutrition for the everyday CrossFit athlete seminar, led by CrossFit Seminar Staff and nutrition coach Jocelyn Rylee, who travelled in from Saskatoon to share her love of and knowledge of Nutrition with us. Alongside a few of our own coaches and athletes, we had attendees from CrossFit Orangeville, CrossFit 1827, and Peaks and Valleys CrossFit.

Nutrition sits at the base of the CrossFit pyramid for a reason. Before intensity, before volume, before any of the things we tend to focus on in the gym, it starts with what you’re fuelling your body with. It’s the foundation.

One of the biggest takeaways from the day was just how much noise surrounds nutrition. There’s always something new being pushed. New rules, new restrictions, new “best” way to eat. It changes constantly, and it can leave people feeling like they’re always behind or doing it wrong. But when you zoom out, the fundamentals haven’t changed.

Over 20 years ago, Greg Glassman said:
Eat meat, vegetables, nuts and seeds, some fruit, little starch, and no sugar.

And that still holds true today. No trends. No shortcuts. Just real food, consistently.

If you’re doing that, you’re giving your body what it needs to support training, recovery, and overall health. It doesn’t need to be more complicated than that.

Jocelyn did an incredible job throughout the day breaking things down in a way that made sense. Not just the “what,” but the “why.” There were great conversations, thoughtful questions, and a lot of moments that I’m sure, made people stop and really think about their own habits.

Because knowing and doing aren’t always the same thing. That’s where this kind of learning matters. It helps close that gap.

We’re grateful to have had the opportunity to host this at CFI and to bring together coaches and athletes from other affiliates who are just as committed to learning and improving.

Because at the end of the day, nutrition is the foundation of health. And health, that’s always been the goal.

Meet Jocelyn. This was taped one year ago, before the launch of the first in person Nutrition for the everyday CrossFit seminar. We just held the 2nd at CFI this past Saturday.
