Please be kind to the equipment

A quick little housekeeping reminder for everyone: please take care of the equipment.

Our SkiErgs have needed to be repaired on multiple occasions over the last month. After the second repair within a week, (same issue, but on a different machine), I called Concept2 to talk through what might be happening. One of the suggestions was to make sure athletes aren’t letting go of the SkiErg handles when they’re down low.

When you’re finished on the SkiErg, please control the handles back up and bring them as high as possible before releasing them. Letting them go from the bottom causes them to retract quickly and puts unnecessary stress on the machine. And could be the cause of the cables jumping off the spools. (As seen in the photos above).

And with our Concept2 bikes, when adjusting the handlebars please don’t tighten the knobs as hard as you possibly can. They only need to be snug enough to hold everything securely in place.

We now have two different C2 bikes where the handlebars can no longer be tightened, and unfortunately, this isn’t a simple little fix. We have to purchase an entirely new handlebar piece for each bike.

We know no one is intentionally damaging equipment. But when dozens of people are using the same equipment every day, these small habits add up quickly and do cause damage.

This reminder goes beyond the SkiErgs and bikes. Please be kind to all of our equipment. Control things when you’re finished with them. Don’t drop things that aren’t meant to be dropped, and if something doesn’t seem to be working properly, please let a coach know rather than forcing it.

We want our equipment to stay in great shape for everyone to use, and replacing parts and repairing machines that shouldn’t need repairing gets expensive very quickly.

So, just a friendly reminder from us: please treat our equipment like it’s yours.

It’s here for our entire community to use, and taking care of it means it’ll be here and working properly the next time you need it.

Thank you for helping us look after our space and everything in it.
