Comparison is the thief of joy
It happens to all of us. You’re standing in front of the whiteboard, looking at the leaderboard, and your eyes go straight to someone else’s score. Maybe it’s the person you usually pace beside. Maybe it’s someone you’ve never met. Either way, it’s easy to fall into the trap of measuring your success against theirs.
But here’s the thing: comparison is the thief of joy.
Every single person walks through our doors with a different story, a different body, and a different reason for being here. Your training is your journey. The leaderboard is there for accountability, tracking progress, for celebrating effort, it’s not for stealing the satisfaction that comes from simply doing the work.
And we’ll be really honest here, we understand, we even catch ourselves doing something similar sometimes, when we happen to see, or are told, what other fitness facilities in the area might be doing. We get sent screenshots or told stories, and for a split second, we find ourselves comparing. Then we stop and remind ourselves: it doesn’t matter.
We know who we are.
We know what we do well.
And most importantly, we know why we do it.
Our focus has always been on coaching, on community, and on helping people move better, live better, and get stronger, one WOD at a time.
That’s our lane. That’s our purpose.
So the next time you find yourself comparing your time, your weight, or your score, take a breath. Remember that it’s you vs. you, every single day. Progress isn’t measured by someone else’s barbell or someone else’s PR. It’s measured by how far you’ve come, how hard you’ve worked, and how well you’ve stayed true to your why.
Keep showing up.
Keep putting in the work.
The joy is in the doing.
