Forging Better Humans

Our newest apparel says FORGING BETTER HUMANS.

It’s a great line on a shirt, but for us, it’s much more than that. We mean it. Our goal is to help build every single person who walks through our doors into a better version of themselves. Stronger. Faster. Fitter. More capable. More confident. Able to lift heavier, move better, work harder and handle more than you could before.

But forging better humans isn’t just about what you can do with a barbell.

It’s about building a body that is capable of doing the things you want it to do for as long as possible. It’s about developing strength that carries into your life outside the gym. It’s about learning that you can do hard things, that you can be uncomfortable and keep going, and that progress usually comes from consistently doing the work long after the excitement of starting has worn off.

And our job as your coaches isn’t always to make that work harder.

Sometimes forging a better human means we need to push some of you a little more. We see that you have another gear even when you’re not sure you do. We might tell you to add a little weight, hold onto the bar for another rep, try the harder progression or stop convincing yourself that you can’t do something before you’ve even tried.

Sometimes, though, it means the exact opposite.

Sometimes it means we need to pull some of you back a little. We need to have you take some weight off the bar. We need to have you slow you down, change a movement, or tell you that today isn’t the day to chase the number you had in your head. Sometimes getting better means being smart enough to back off a little.

Both are coaching.

We don’t push you because harder is always better, and we don’t scale you because we don’t think you’re capable. We do both because we’re looking at the bigger picture. We’re not just thinking about the score you’re going to write down today. We’re thinking about what will help you become better tomorrow, next month, next year and ten years from now.

That’s one of the reasons being coached matters.

It can be difficult to see yourself objectively. Some of us naturally underestimate what we’re capable of and need someone to give us a little nudge. Others would load another 20 pounds on the bar regardless of what the last rep looked like and occasionally need someone to take the plates out of their hands.

And then there are all the days in between, when you simply need to show up, train appropriately and put another good day in the bank.

Because better humans aren’t forged in one workout.

They’re built over hundreds and thousands of ordinary days. They’re built through consistency. Through learning. Through failing at something and trying again. Through taking feedback. Through celebrating the person beside you. Through understanding that your best effort won't look exactly the same every day and showing up anyway.

We want you stronger, but we also want you smarter about how you train. We want you faster, but not at the expense of moving well. We want you fitter, but we also want that fitness to serve the life you live outside these walls. We want you capable of doing more, while also knowing when doing less is the better decision.

We want 40 year old you preparing the body that 60 year old you gets to live in. We want 60 year old you doing things you might once have assumed were only for younger people. And we want our youngest athletes learning now that being strong, working hard, being coachable and supporting the people around them are things worth carrying through life.

That’s what Forging Better Humans means.

Not perfect humans.
Not the fastest person on the whiteboard.
Not the person who RXs every workout or lifts the most weight.

Better than yesterday.
More capable than you used to be.
Still learning.
Still working.
Still showing up.

And sometimes getting there means we’re going to push you. And sometimes we’re going to pull you back.

But every time, the goal is the same.

Forging better humans.
