Cherry Picking
You had to know this one was coming. When there are only two people at 6am and two at 7pm, it’s a pretty good sign that Tuesday’s workout was cherry picked.
The workout was our annual bridge run. We typically do this workout once a year.
A 2.1km Bridge Run loop, while carrying a wall ball.
It is meant to be awkward and uncomfortable.
Now, some of you might be thinking, “I just didn’t feel like running.” And that’s fine. Missing a workout here and there happens, but this post isn’t about one skipped class, it’s about what skipping the hard stuff or the stuff you just don’t feel like doing, and what it can mean for your overall progress.
If you’re feeling like your fitness has stalled a bit, or that you're not seeing the results you were hoping for, it’s worth asking a few questions: One of which is, are you consistently showing up, even for the workouts you don’t want to do?
Because here’s the thing, the workouts you avoid are often the ones you need the most. They're the ones that challenge your weaknesses, build grit, and push you through mental barriers.
If it was the distance that held you back, your coaches can always help scale it. That’s our job, we can adjust the distance, the weight, the pacing, but we can’t help if you’re not in the room.
So next time you see a workout that makes you hesitate, take that as your cue to show up.
Progress doesn’t come from doing what’s easy. It comes from doing what’s necessary.
And remember, hard isn’t a punishment, it’s a proving ground.
