A blog that is a ‘love letter’ for coaches:
Dear Athletes,
We wanted to take a minute to talk to you, not about movement standards or programming or upcoming events, but about something that plays a huge role in your progress, your safety, and your long term success inside our walls: being coachable.
Every time you walk into the gym, you’re stepping into a space built for growth. Growth in strength, confidence, capacity, and resilience. But that only happens when you're open to learning. Open to learning even when it’s uncomfortable, and even when you think you’ve already got something dialled in.
Being coachable doesn’t mean you’re not already strong or experienced. It just means you’re willing to listen, to try your best to apply feedback, and keep an open mind, no matter where you are in your journey.
As coaches we’re not here to call you out, or pick you apart. We’re here to help you move better, move safer, move smarter, and move more efficiently. Whether it’s asking you to adjust your stance on a lift, slow down to focus on position, or scale to a more appropriate version of a movement, or weight, we’re doing it because we care. Not because we don’t think you can do it, but because we want you to be able to do it better.
There’s a difference between working out and training. You’re not here to just sweat. Inside a CrossFit affiliate, you have coaches who are here to help you improve, and that improvement often lives in the small details that we as coaches are trained to see, and that you might not even feel.
We do get it, sometimes feedback from us can feel frustrating. Especially if you’re competitive, or if you’ve been doing this a while. But even the best athletes in the world have coaches. They seek out feedback, and they want someone watching, correcting, refining their movement.
We ask the same from you.
Let us coach you.
Let us help you grow.
Let us guide you toward better movement, even when it’s hard.
We promise, it’s coming from the right place.
