Open blog

We recently had a conversation with an athlete who pointed something out to us.

“You know anyone can follow your blog and get your programming without paying you, right?”

Yep. They can.

Our blog is open. Our daily programming is there for anyone to see. Technically, someone could visit it every day, take the workout we’ve programmed for our members and do it somewhere else.

We would hope people would be more honest than that.

We would hope that if you’re not an active member of CrossFit Indestri, you’re not simply following along with our blog and using our programming as your own free training program. There is a lot of time, thought and experience that goes into what we program. It isn’t a collection of random workouts. We program specifically for the athletes who train inside CrossFit Indestri, with a bigger picture in mind.

But that conversation also reminded us of something important.

Doing our programming is not really the same as training at CrossFit Indestri.

You can read that there are cleans today. You can see the sets, reps and maybe even percentages. You can read the workout underneath it and do every single piece exactly as it appears on the blog. But you aren’t getting the same experience.

Because our programming is only one part of what we do.

When you come into CrossFit Indestri, a coach takes you through that programming. They explain the intention of the day. They teach the movements. They watch how you move. They help you choose the appropriate weight, variation or scaling options. They notice when something doesn’t look right. They make corrections. They hold you to the standard. They know when you should push a little harder and when you should back off.

Sometimes the most important part of the workout isn’t even written on the blog. It’s the conversation with your coach before it starts. It’s the cue that changes the way you move. It’s being told to take ten pounds off the bar because today isn’t the day for it. Or being told to put ten pounds back on because your coach knows you’re capable of more.

It’s the coaching.

And then there’s the room around you. The people beside you doing the same work. The energy of a class. The encouragement. The accountability. The laughs. The person who makes you work just a little harder simply because they’re there.

A workout can be copied, but that can’t be..

CrossFit itself has actually operated this way from the very beginning. CrossFit.com has published workouts publicly for decades. Anyone could follow along for free, and many people do. But CrossFit also understands something important: the workout was never the entire product.

So yes, the athlete we were speaking with is right. Someone could be following our blog every day and doing our programming somewhere else without ever paying CrossFit Indestri.

We hope people respect us, and the work that goes into it enough not to use our blog that way. We keep it open because it’s a resource for our members and because sharing information has always been part of CrossFit.

But we also know that what we actually provide could never fit into a blog post.
