Quarterfinals at CrossFit Indestri - Monday, March 30th, 2026
Thanks to Rachel for making the sign for these guys! :)
Quarterfinals at CrossFit Indestri
We want to start by saying thank you to everyone who popped in over on the weekend to cheer, support, and stand behind our athletes as they took on four workouts across two days. Your support mattered, maybe even more than you probably realize. That kind of energy lifts people when things start to hurt, and it doesn’t go unnoticed, so thank you.
And a big congratulations to the ten athletes from CrossFit Indestri who qualified for Quarterfinals this year. That’s no small accomplishment. While three of our athletes had prior family and work commitments that, of course, come first, we did end up having seven athletes take on quarterfinals. And those seven athletes should be very proud of the workout they put in this weekend. We certainly are.
Quarterfinals are different from the Open. This stage of the CrossFit season isn’t just about fitness. It’s about how well you can recover, refuel, and reset. It’s no longer one workout a week. It becomes a weekend of competing. Which means, managing your body between efforts, staying on top of nutrition and hydration, and being ready to go again. We were lucky to have a bit of extra support in that area. Thank you to Dan and Steve for bringing in some of the Vortex Wellness recovery tools. Having those available between workouts made a real difference for our athletes.
We also need to thank the people who helped make the weekend run as smoothly as it did. Mel, Jesse, Dan, and Hannah, thank you for stepping in to judge alongside Steph and I. We say it often because it’s true, we can’t do weekends like this without people willing to step up. Judging isn’t easy. Everyone wants the absolute best for these athletes, it is not easy to give no reps, when you can clearly see how hard someone is working, and how much they are hunting, and you genuinely care about them doing well. But competitions have to be fair, and that’s where judges come in. It’s never a personal attack, it’s about holding a standard. But that doesn’t mean it’s not hard.
Having a team like of judges in place allowed me to fully step into the role of head judge and be able to oversee the floor as a whole, which is incredibly important in a setting like this. So it was greatly appreciated.
Weekends like this are a lot of fun. It’s exciting to see athletes get the chance to push themselves, and maybe surprise themselves. But these weekends are also stressful. It’s no surprise that we take standards and the rules of the competition seriously here. If you’re on social media, you’ve probably seen a lot this season. There’s a lot out there right now. A lot being called out, a lot being debated. I’ve been involved in the competition side of functional fitness this since 2012, running some of the largest events in Canada, with upwards of 1200 athletes across a weekend. And one of the things that I have always been most proud of during competition is how CrossFit Indestri athletes move.
We don’t look for shortcuts. We don’t look to ride the line. There’s an integrity in movement, and while everyone wants to perform well, that should never come at the cost of that integrity. We would take an athlete who moves well and earns every single rep, over someone riding the line, or shortcutting the standard, just to chase a slightly higher placing on a leardboard any day.
So when we see what’s happening out there, it reinforces something for us. How proud we are of how our athletes and judges show up. Proud of the standard they hold, and proud of the role we hope that we play in building that integrity and care in the standard. We hope to lead always lead by example. The ethos of CrossFit is important to us. We want to thank you for representing CrossFit Indestri with integrity and the values we hold close.
Now I’d be remiss not take the time to also acknowledge Steph for a second here.
Not only does she help me ensure everything runs the way it should on weekends like this, but this weekend she also stepped onto the floor and competed. (Last minute.) While it might seem surprising to hear, she actually had no plans to compete in quarterfinals. Coaching and competing at the same time really isn’t easy, and she had decided her focus was going to be on being there for our athletes. But when Emma was asked to capture content for CrossFit HQ, Steph made the call on Thursday to jump in so Emma would have more of our athletes to be able to capture.
Balancing both the roles of a coach and an athlete the way Steph does is no small thing. And she handled it the way she always does, with effort, presence, and care for our athletes. I’m not sure anyone truly understands how rare it really is to be both a really good athlete, and a really good coach, and Steph does it masterfully. Honestly. More often than not, you get one or other, but not both, not at the same time. I truly hope each of you understand how lucky you are to have Steph pour into you as much as she does, while also trying to take on the role of an athlete herself as well. My hats always off to her in how well she is able to truly balance both roles.
Congratulations everyone.
That’s a wrap. On the open, on quarterfinals. Until 2027….
Once again, to all of our athletes who took on Quarterfinals, well done.
To everyone who came out to support, thank you.
To our judges, we appreciate you more than you know.
And to Emma, for capturing it all so well as always, thank you.
Next up, the Community Cup later this summer.
