26.Done

First, a quick reminder: if you haven’t already, please make sure your 26.1 score is submitted to your games.crossfit.com account. Scores must be entered by Monday at 5pm PST. Unfortunately, once that deadline passes, there is nothing we can do, as submissions are handled entirely by CrossFit HQ.

Your score should be your total number of reps completed, along with your tie break time.

Saturday was everything the Open is meant to be. The energy in the gym was electric from the first heat to the last. What stood out most wasn’t just the athletes competing, but how many of you showed up to support. You judged, you encouraged, you cheered, and many of you stayed long after your own heat just to lift someone else up. And so many of you also dressed up in the theme of the Winter Olympics.

That’s what the Open and our community are all about, and we are so grateful for it.

We truly want thank you to everyone who came out to support, cheer, and be part of the day. And a very special thank you to those who judged. We simply could not run the Open without you. You give your time, your focus, and your care so that your fellow athletes can have a great experience. Athletes please be sure to thank your judges each week.

Now, about the workout itself. 26.1 was humbling. There’s no other way to say it. For a very small group of elite Games athletes around the world, it was a “for time” workout, and even many of them weren’t finishing. For the vast majority of CrossFitters, it wasn’t about racing the clock to the end. It was about getting as far as possible within the 12 min time cap.

It was about managing fatigue.
Managing frustration.
And for some, managing doubt.
It was about earning every single rep.

Last week we had a blog that talked about earning your reps, and that’s exactly what you did. No shortcuts, no gaming. You worked for every rep. You stayed in it when it got uncomfortable, and you pushed when you wanted to slow down.

Everyone who stepped on that floor should be very proud.

Of course, some of you wished you had done better. That’s natural, and that’s the competitive mindset that drives growth. There is nothing wrong with reflecting and wanting to improve. But please remember this:

You showed up.
You worked hard.
You gave everything you had in that moment, and that deserves to be celebrated.

If something exposed a weakness, that’s okay. Now you have direction. We all do. Your score on the leaderboard does not define you.

What does, is the effort, integrity, and courage you brought. We saw it all. The grit, the frustration, the breakthroughs, and the incredible way this community rallied around one another.

We are incredibly proud of all of you.
We hope you’re all incredibly proud of yourselves as well.

There is something else we want to share as well. Steph and I truly try our best during the Open. We want to chat, encourage, and be present with all of you, but every year, when we look back, we realize there were people we didn’t get a chance to talk to, or sometimes didn’t even realize had come in to spectate, and we always feel badly about that.

The reality is, while the Open can look like organized chaos from the outside, behind the scenes we are trying to run a very tight ship. We’re watching the heat schedule, making sure we have enough judges, keeping things running on time because many of you need to get to work afterward, or be somewhere after, and ensuring everything is set up properly. Making sure equipment is ready, clocks are programmed, judges are confident in the standards, athletes understand expectations, music is working, and that workouts are happening safely. While also answering questions, calming nerves, managing expectations, and that’s all before we even begin to manage our own thoughts and emotions about the workout as athletes ourselves.

Sounds like a lot, but we absolutely love the Open. And are extremely passionate about it. It’s truly such a magical time. (Sounds silly but it is)‍ ‍As many of you already know, I am a total crybaby. Every year there are moments that bring tears to my eyes. Watching someone hit a 9 foot target with a 14 lb wall ball when it’s something they struggle with. Seeing someone fight to squat below parallel when that’s been a long term struggle for them. Hearing the cheers when someone everyone pushes through. Those moments get us every time, because we care so deeply about our community. So if we didn’t get a chance to connect with you on Saturday, we hope to connect with you next weekend, and when you see us running around or overseeing things, please don’t ever hesitate to come say hi.

And finally, thank you to Season (Culinary Designs) for the amazing treats this week. They were absolutely incredible, and to Emma for capturing it all again for us. And thank you, thank you, thank you, again to all the judges.

26.1 is done.

On to 26.2…. Theme for 26.2 is Monochrome, ( all one colour). Everyone should be able to participate in this theme. :)
