Whiteboard Chats
If you’ve been part of our community for a while, you’ll remember how every class used to start. People would walk in, grab a foam roller or a lacrosse ball, settle in front of the whiteboard, or even the old chalkboard, hang out, roll out, and just chat as one big group. It wasn’t just about going over the workout. It was about connection, that space in front of the board was where the energy of the class began. Conversations happening, jokes being shared, new members getting welcomed in. It’s the starting line, not just for the WOD, but for the community.
Some of our classes still do this really well, and it’s amazing to see. But not every class does, and we’d love to see it come back across the board.
When 2020 came along, and everything had to change, we adapted, because that’s what we do. Boxes were taped out on the floor, people were spaced out and cautious, rightfully so, but as time went on, a lot of those habits stuck. Or that was the time when some of you joined the gym, and that just seemed to be what we did. People started coming in and setting up further away from the whiteboard, across the rig, on the outskirts, talking in smaller groups, or sometimes not at all. What was once a big group hang started to fade into smaller ones with distance, and we have never really addressed it at all. Until now.
We would love to get back to the full class whiteboard hangs. Let’s bring it all back to the front of the room, back to the heart of what makes CrossFit Indestri feel like more than just a place to train, because those pre class minutes matter, that time is where the vibe of the session starts, it’s where the nervous energy about a workout turns into shared excitement. It’s where you find a new training partner, hear a good story, or just feel more connected to the people sweating beside you.
Again, some of our classes still do this really well, and this isn’t calling out anyone. It’s just something we’ve noticed, especially on the busier days like Saturday’s, when more bodies are in the gym, more spaces seem to happen and more smaller group are formed. This also isn’t for those of you who already do it, it’s a friendly nudge for those who might be a little shy, or quiet, or tend to stay away, we want you in the mix of the group hang, and the conversation.
So here’s the ask: the next time you walk into the gym, come up front, roll out, stretch, say hi, ask questions, be part of the conversation. Even if you’re tired or feeling quiet, just being there makes a difference, not just for you, but for everyone else in the room. Because CrossFit has always been about more than just fitness. It’s about community, and community starts when we show up, for the workout, and for each other.
