Moving the Needle
We all come to CrossFit with different goals.
Some people want to get in better shape. Some want to build strength. Some want to improve their endurance, have more energy, keep up with their kids or grandkids, or simply feel better in their day to day lives.
Those individual goals matter, and they're often what get us started.
As coaches, though, our goal is something a little different..
Our goal is to help move the needle along the CrossFit Sickness - Wellness - Fitness Continuum toward fitness.
The continuum is a simple but powerful concept.
On one end is sickness.
In the middle is wellness.
On the far end is fitness.
Many people spend their lives aiming for wellness. They want to feel okay, avoid illness, and maintain a reasonable quality of life.
We want more for you than that.
We want to help you build fitness.
Why? Because fitness creates a buffer.
Life is going to happen. We all experience periods of stress, illness, injury, poor sleep, busy schedules, setbacks, and the natural effects of aging. At times, those things may cause the needle to move away from fitness.
The closer you are to the fitness end of the continuum, the more room you have when those challenges arise.
Think of it like having money in the bank. If you start with a large reserve, an unexpected expense doesn't put you into debt. Fitness works much the same way. The more fitness you build, the better equipped you are to handle the inevitable challenges that come your way.
That's why we train the way we do. Why we focus on strength, endurance, mobility, balance, coordination, power, and all the other aspects of fitness that CrossFit develops.
We're not simply trying to get you through today's workout. We’re not working to get you ready for the next CrossFit Open season.
We're trying to help you build a foundation that supports your health and quality of life for years and decades to come.
The goal isn't perfection.
The goal isn't to be the fittest competitive athlete in the room.
The goal is to keep moving the needle toward fitness whenever possible, so that when life inevitably pushes back, you have the capacity to stay well clear of sickness and continue doing the things you love.
That's what fitness is really about.
It’s not about just performing well in the gym, but it is about building a larger margin for life outside of it.
