Why we're Forging Better Humans

We’ve been working on a few new CrossFit Indestri apparel designs and the phrase "Forging Better Humans." is something you might seen on some new gear soon.

So we thought it was important to share what they mean to us. Because, Forging Better Humans, is much more than a catchy phrase or a slogan. It represent the reason we do what we do every single day.

Some of you may know this, but when I was buying into CrossFit Indestri back in 2015, I asked Scott Thornton why he had chosen the name Indestri. I thought I should know why and how my soon to be business got its name.

His answer;

He explained that industry is all about manufacturing. He liked the unique spelling of Indestri, but what really inspired him was the idea of "manufacturing" the human body through CrossFit. Not in the literal sense, of course, but in the sense that through hard work, consistency, coaching, and time, people could build themselves into stronger, healthier, more capable versions of who they were.

We're here to help people become fitter. We want you to get stronger, move better, improve your endurance, and build a healthier body. We also love celebrating first pull ups, personal records, and milestones that once seemed impossible. But if that's all we accomplished, we'd feel like we were missing the bigger purpose.

Our goal has never been to simply create better athletes.
Our goal is to help forge better humans.

The word forge is intentional.

To forge something is to shape it through heat, pressure, hard work, and time. Steel isn't forged in comfort. It's forged by enduring a process that makes it stronger than it was before.

We aren't much different.

Every workout presents an opportunity to become a little better. Sometimes that means pushing through discomfort. Other times it means having the patience to slow down and focus on quality movement. It might mean learning to leave your ego at the door, asking for help, or accepting that today's best effort looks different than yesterday's.

The beauty of CrossFit is that it teaches lessons far beyond fitness. Showing up consistently when you don't feel like it builds discipline. Attempting something you've never done before builds courage. Failing, trying again, and eventually succeeding builds resilience. Learning that progress takes months and years instead of days builds patience.

Those qualities don't disappear when class is over. They show up at work, in your relationships, and when life throws challenges your way. The confidence you build under a barbell often becomes confidence in every other area of your life.

Being a better human isn't only about becoming stronger yourself. It's also about helping others become stronger. It's cheering for the last athlete to finish the workout. It's celebrating someone else's success without comparing it to your own. It's introducing yourself to the new member who's walking into the gym feeling nervous. It's encouraging someone on a hard day because you remember what it felt like to be in their shoes.

That's the kind of community we're proud to have here.

We also don't believe success is measured only by what's written on the whiteboard. The whiteboard can only give us an idea of what happened during the workout, but it doesn't tell us who helped other’s clean up after the workout. Or encouraged the person beside them through their final reps. And it doesn't tell us who quietly chose to show up even though they were having one of the hardest weeks of their life.

Those things matter just as much, and in some cases maybe even more.

When we say we're forging better humans, we're talking about helping to build people who are resilient, humble, disciplined, kind, accountable, and willing to do hard things. We're talking about creating a place where people become healthier not only physically, but mentally and emotionally too.

The workouts are simply the vehicle. The real transformation happens in the person you become because you keep showing up. One workout won't change your life. Nor will one healthy meal or one great day. But thousands of small choices, made consistently over time, absolutely can.

That's what we're chasing. Not perfection, or six pack abs, and not a number on the whiteboard.

We're chasing growth, healthier lives, stronger communities, and the best version of ourselves.

That's what Forging Better Humans means to us.

So if you see those words on a CrossFit Indestri shirt in the near future, you'll know they represent something much bigger than apparel.

In many ways, they also pay tribute to the original vision behind the name CrossFit Indestri. A vision that started with building stronger bodies, and has grown into something even more meaningful: forging better humans.
