Jen’s Birthday WOD
It’s my birthday WOD. It always feels really odd to write a blog about myself, so I did what I usually do and went back through some older posts and copied and pasted most of it.
For those who don’t know me (which I don’t honestly think is any of you), I’m one of the Co-Owners of CrossFit Indestri, along with Coach Steph and Stouty, and have been for the past 10 years (as of December 9th). If you’ve joined in the last little while and we haven’t met in person, we’ve at least emailed back and forth, or I’ve helped get your membership set up.
I love CrossFit. I have since the day I started back in 2012. I love the hard work, the feeling of accomplishment, the process of developing movements, and the community, both inside our four walls and in the broader CrossFit world.
I’m on the quieter, more shy side, believe it or not. While I write all our blogs, and social media, and always seem to have a lot to say, talking in front of a group has never come naturally to me, it’s the main reason why I tend to jump in to coach only when we need coverage, rather than being on the full time coaching schedule. That said, I have been on the floor coaching more in the past couple of years. But most of my role is behind the scenes, the blog, programming, social media, emails, bills, logistics, and all the things that keep the doors open and the lights on.
I’ve been part of CrossFit Indestri as a member since 2012 and as a Co-Owner since 2015. I was also 1/3 of the organizing team for UG Series until we sold it after the 2019 event. From 2012 to 2019, I helped create what became Canada’s largest functional fitness competition and travelled all over Ontario (and into Montreal) to run events. Between UG and CFI, I’ve been part of running well over 50 competitions. It’s been a big part of my life, and I have loved it all.
Today’s workout is a little celebration of all of that, and of another year around the sun.
Jen’s Birthday WOD
4 min AMRAP x 6 sets
2 min rest between sets
5 Burpee Over DB
12 DB Hang Clean + Jerk (50/35)
19 Air Squats
79 Double Unders
You’ll start where you left off each time. So if you finish your last set partway through the air squats when the 4 minute window ends, you’ll pick back up with air squats at the start of your next 4 minute AMRAP.
The numbers, of course, aren’t random:
5 – My birthday (December 5th)
12 – The month
19 and 79 – The year I was born: 1979
All wrapped into a long grinder style piece, with built in rest to let you regroup and get back after it.4 min AMRAP’s x 6 sets - Because I’m 46 today.
Enjoy it, and if at any point you feel like complaining, just be thankful you’re not in a weight vest doing it.
