Like no time has passed

Every now and then, someone walks back through the doors who hasn’t been here in years, and one of the best things we hear is: “It feels exactly the same.”

Not because nothing has changed. There are lots of new faces. New friendships. New stories being written every day. But the feeling? That hasn’t changed, and that’s not by accident.

CrossFit isn’t just about the workouts. It’s not just about what’s written on the whiteboard or how hard you push during a class. The ethos of CrossFit is, about how you show up. It’s the fist bumps after a workout, introducing yourself to someone you don’t know. Connections made gathering around the whiteboard before classes start.

It’s those small things, done consistently, that create the feeling people remember when they come back. Because a class isn’t just a time slot. It’s a shared experience. And the community isn’t something that just exists. It’s something that’s built, protected, and carried forward by the people in it.

We’ve been lucky to have some familiar faces return recently. People who were part of CrossFit Indestri years ago, stepping back into the space.

For them, a lot has changed. There are many new members they don’t recognize. Different people beside them in class. But what hasn’t changed is how it feels to be a part of CrossFit Indestri.

That sense of being welcomed. Of being included, and being part of something. That matters to us. And it’s something we’re very aware of.

At times it can be easy, without realizing it, to drift into small groups. To stand with the same people. To have conversations that unintentionally feel closed off to others. Backs turned inwards, etc. When that happens, someone new, or someone returning, can feel like they’re on the outside looking in. That’s not what we want, or who we are.

We gather around the whiteboard before classes together for a reason. Openly. Not in tight circles. Not in side conversations. But as a group, so everyone feels like they can step in, listen, ask questions, and just be part of it. That’s what keeps the doors open socially. That’s what makes someone feel like they can come back after years away and still call this place home.

The workouts will always be there.
The programming will evolve.
But the ethos, how we treat each other, how we show up in the space, that’s what defines CrossFit Indestri.

Because at the end of the day, it’s not just about fitness. It’s about community.
We’ve had it happen a few times recently. Having some athletes return after being gone for years, and have them feel like no time has passed, and there’s no better feeling then to hear them say, “it feels exactly the same.”
