Honouring through Hero WODs

In the month of November, we’ll be taking on multiple Hero WODs, at least one each week, and in some weeks, more than one. A few will even be Canadian Hero WODs, honouring those who’ve served our country with courage and sacrifice.

What are Hero WODs?

Hero WODs are a CrossFit tradition, a cornerstone of the CrossFit Ethos that represents something much deeper than just a workout. Each Hero WOD is named in memory of a fallen service member, military, first responder, law enforcement officer, etc. who was a also aCrossFitter, that lost their life in the line of duty.

They’re designed to be tough, both physically and mentally, because they’re meant to remind us that suffering, effort, and perseverance are part of the tribute. These workouts aren’t about chasing a PR or leaderboard spot. They’re about honouring those who gave everything.

When we take on a Hero WOD, we’re not just training. We’re paying respect. We’re moving with purpose. We’re part of something that connects the CrossFit community worldwide.

As mentioned throughout the month of November, we’ll complete several Hero WODs together, some well known like today, others you may not have seen before, but each one will challenge you in a different way and carry a story that deserves to be remembered.

And yes, a couple will be Canadian Hero WODs, written in memory of our own fallen heroes.

Chad 1000X — Saturday, November 8th

One of the Hero WODs that we have added to annual WODs is CHAD 1000X, a workout created in honour of Navy SEAL Chad Wilkinson, who tragically lost his life to suicide in 2018.

The workout is simple in design, but far from easy:
1,000 step-ups for time (20” box, with a ruck/backpack/weight vest on).

It’s a test of grit, endurance, and mental toughness, but more importantly, it’s a reminder of the unseen battles so many face. We’ll take on CHAD 1000X together on Saturday, November 8th, and registration for the class is now open in zenplanner. The class will be capped at 50 athletes, so be sure to sign up early if you plan to join.

This workout is about more than fitness, it’s about awareness, support, and honour.

Hero WODs give us perspective. They remind us that the hour we spend inside the gym is a gift, and that pushing through discomfort can be a small way to show gratitude for those who’ve given so much more.

November is a time for remembrance, reflection, and community.
We always want you to move well, but during these Hero WOD’s, let’s all remember to move with purpose, honour with effort, and carry forward the stories of the heroes who remind us what strength truly means.
