The Fittest on Earth
The 2026 CrossFit Games have come to a close. The Fittest on Earth have been crowned, and for the second time, Canadian Emma Lawson stood on the podium as the 2nd Fittest Woman on Earth. What an incredible accomplishment, and another amazing performance by one of Canada's brightest athletes.
What a weekend of fitness.
If you watched any of the Games this past week, chances are you came away inspired. How could you not. Event after event, athlete after athlete, I found myself thinking the same thing.
CrossFit is just so incredibly cool.
Earlier this year, so many of you kicked off the 2026 CrossFit Games season by completing the CrossFit Open right here inside our affiliate. The very same Open that you did is where every athlete competing on the competition floor last week began their season.
Think about that for a moment.
The path to the CrossFit Games doesn't start in a giant arena. It starts inside an affiliate. It starts with everyday people signing up for the Open, throwing down with their community, and seeing what they're capable of.
Watching the Games, it's easy to think those athletes are superhuman. In many ways, they are extraordinary. They've dedicated years to refining their fitness, their skills, and their mindset. They eat, sleep, train, and recover as a profession.
But here's the really cool part.
So much of what they're doing isn't different from what we do every single day inside CrossFit Indestri.
They squat, deadlift, clean, run, row, do pull ups. They push themselves. The difference isn't the methodology. I t's the degree at which they do it.
CrossFit founder Greg Glassman said:
"Our needs differ by degree, not kind."
That quote has always been one of the foundations of CrossFit, and we've had the opportunity to see it play out firsthand.
In 2023, after finishing 2nd at the CrossFit Games, Emma Lawson dropped into our 9:30am class while she was visiting Collingwood. She didn't do a special workout. She joined the class and completed the exact same workout as everyone else, including Nancy.
Watching one of the fittest people on the planet train beside an 87 year old athlete was one of the greatest examples of CrossFit's methodology you'll ever see.
The movements were the same.
The workout was the same.
The intent was the same.
Only the degree changed.
That's what makes CrossFit so special. It isn't a fitness methodology for elite athletes only. It's a methodology that works for everyone, from someone stepping into a gym for the very first time to someone standing on the CrossFit Games podium.
If you didn't get a chance to watch any of this year's Games, I would encourage you to head over to YouTube and watch a few events.
Not because you'll ever need to snatch heavy weights in a speed ladder or swim and do burpees on a pool deck.
Watch them because you'll see determination.
You'll see resilience.
You'll see people finding out what they're are truly capable of.
And if you're paying attention, you'll also recognize a lot of what you do every time you walk through our doors.
It's the same methodology.
It's the same pursuit of becoming a little bit better.
Just on a different scale.
