Change it up
For years CrossFit has said routine is the enemy. Constantly varied functional movements is what CrossFit is at its core.
So why don’t you constantly vary anything else about coming to the facility? Change it up. If you’re sticking to the same class time, the same coach, the same days of the week, the same spots in the facility. Try and change it up.
Before you read this and decide to just skip over because there is no way you’re going to change anything up. We’re not asking you to flip your entire schedule around. We’re suggesting that if you can, you try to attend one different class time a week, or even a month. If 6am works for you, chances are so does 6pm. If 9:30am works for you, chances are so does 12pm. If 7am works for you, get up a little bit earlier and go to 6am. Just once a week or even once a month. See how it feels, meet new people, etc. Or at the very least attend the odd Saturday class. There’s a whole facility full of athletes that you might never meet otherwise. You might also find that your body adjusts different to training at a different time. If you’re usually at 6am, you might find you have more energy at a different time, or the opposite, if you’re usually at 6pm, you might find you have more energy before a full day of the week.
If you’re a 3x a week athlete and only come Monday, Wednesday, Friday, change that up, come Monday, Tuesday, Thursday once. Don’t get so stuck in habits and routines that make it so you feel uncomfortable to change it up ever. Or if you’re someone who comes into the facility and goes to the exact same spot for every class, change it up. Without even knowing it, you’re creating a routine that could through you completely off one day when your in a class and someone else is in the spot that you like to be in.
I know 95% of you are reading this might roll your eyes and say hell no, this is what works for me, period. Well there was a time once when you also didn’t CrossFit, some of you even thought that CrossFit was crazy, that you would never do it, and look at you now. It’s kind of like we know what we’re talking about.
Change it up, once a week, or least once a month, step outside of your habit and give it a try.
