Are you actually using your pre class time? - Friday, August 15th, 2025

Are you actually using your pre class time?

We get it, the gym can feel like a second home. It’s where your people are. You walk in, grab a foam roller, find your favourite area, and suddenly it’s time for class and all you’ve done is swap weekend plans and talk about how sore you still are from Monday.

Totally relatable. But let’s be honest, is that foam roller actually doing anything if you're just sitting on it and chatting?

Let’s get into it and talk about those valuable 10 to 15 minutes before class starts, and how they can make or break the quality of your training session, with the exception of our 7am crew (we see you, and we know you have to wait while the class before you finishes before you entire the floor area), however with that said, yes, 7amers, you can still get ahead by heading out for a quick warm up run on the trail while you wait for the floor to clear. Most other class times give you a solid 10 to 15 minute window to start getting your body and mind ready to train, unless we have a group in, or something going on.

This pre class window is an opportunity for you to get ready, and a time when you can create habits worth building on.

A time for you to begin to move, mobilize, and prep. Don’t waste that time. If you want to get even more out of every hour you spend training, start using those early minutes with purpose. Here are some great ways to make that time count:

  • Hop on a C2 bike or skierg for a few minutes of light movement

  • Do a quick 400m run of the trail outside to get your blood flowing

  • Use Crossover Symmetry to fire up your shoulders

  • Target a tight or cranky area with a lacrosse ball or foam roller (actually use it, not just sit on it)

  • Run through a few dynamic movements: banded walks, air squats, scap retract pull ups, TYW shoulder series, fire hydrant hip series, etc.

  • Head to the whiteboard with your book and write the workout down, it's a great way to mentally lock in and get focused

Creating these habits adds up. Pre class time isn’t mandatory, but it is impactful. It’s a way to show up prepared, physically and mentally. To give your body a head start on what’s coming, and to turn off the noise of your day your about to have, or have had, and flip the switch into training mode.

We love the community, and we love the connections that you have built. But we also want to remind you: those first few minutes in the gym can be the difference between just getting through the workout, or owning it, but again, this is only if nothing is going on in the gym prior to your class time, if there is another class, or event happening, you need to wait until the floor is clear for your class time.
